Timber industry developed in Barlinek as early as the nineteenth century. Since the end of the Second World War there was a sawmill operating together with a carpenter's shop and furniture factory. Apart from this one there were some more sawmills working in the area. After the war they were all combined into one company - the Timber Plant of State Forests in Barlinek. At the earliest stage of production sawmills converted softwood and hardwood into timber. The amount of the conversion oscillated around 100 m3 a day. At that time the carpenter's shop produced furniture for schools and offices, anti-snow hoardings and compasses to measure ground. From 1947 onwards the production increased and was extended by the following range of products: chairs, opening joinery, and wooden outfitting. Till 1950 the whole production was meant for the construction industry. After 1950 the following were produced: all-wood chairs, semi-cushioned chairs, all-cushioned chairs, children's folding chairs, as well as deck chairs and clothes-pins.
From 1 January 1959, the company adopted the name Barlinek Works of the Timber Industry in Barlinek, subject to the Association of the Sawmill Industry and Wooden Products in Warsaw, and then to the District Enterprise of the Timber Industry in Szczecin. In 1975 the works transformed into the Barlinek Wood Industry Enterprise in Barlinek.
